"We'll see. I'll hunt them all down if I have to." And he would. He'ddone it before upon request, and had managed to detain them all, all except one. That one was shot down. Besides the straggler, he'd taken in every relative of a specific prisoner over a few months. He wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

          -

"Three feet? Three fucking feet? You're bringing an entire squadron down on your head for three feet, probably not even!" The girl whirled on Hudson, snarling. Three feet was hardly enough to justify an attack, and she probably hadn't even been that far over the line.

"You lying son of a bitch." The brunette glared at Declan, sorely wishing that looks alone could kill. He'd surely be the first she'd take out. "We don't need a reason to take you in, mind you." Nathaniel said from behind her, his voice eerily calm.

Fuck. What good would Leila's relatives really do? It wasn't like they were in the military themselves so what would they even know besides what her interrogator already knew? She just hoped he had enough decency to leave her sister alone . . .

          -

"Just be thankful that we didn't kill you like we killed your brother." HUdson knew the statement would possibly bring a rise out of the girl, so he stood ready to deflect any punch or slap that he probably deserved. Her brother wasn't really dead, but it wasn't good to elude Piper to the truth.

The girl had no response, and he grinned in spite of himself. Maybe she had siblings or family members in the war, after all. "If you tell me the truth, I'll leave them alone. And that's a promise." To her, his word was probably shot to hell. But he didn't have much interest in taking them all in if he didn't have to.

          -

"Thankful." The brunette scoffed, making her way towards Hudson with a few long strides. "Thank you for being a smartass, then. But I'm telling you one thing—if my brother's name ever comes out of your mouth again, they'll be naming hurricanes after me for a fucking century."

"They only form over warm water. We like to keep the house pretty cold here. Nice try, though."

"Are you going to keep your word?" Leila looked at him with a deadly serious expression. There was so much on the line: her life, her sister's life, and her sanity. She didn't now how she would go on if her sister was taken in by the enemy.

          -

Hudson grinned. He had gotten the reaction he had wanted from her. If only she knew that he was really alive and well - or at least, becoming well. There was no way he'd, they'd tell her that useful bit of information. She would just have to live assuming her sibling's death.

"I wouldn't have said it if I didn't mean it." He cocked an eyebrow, waiting for her to take back the lie and tell him the truth. If she did, maybe she was worth keeping around. If she didn't, she was dumber than he'd initially thought.

          -

Nathaniel clucked his tongue and whistled to draw the girl's attention back to him, and her grey eyes flickered to his without any effort on her part to hide her anger. "You. Say—Declan, don't you have a bed open in yours and Hudson's room since Baxter left?" It only made sense to have Declan in charge of her. Rankwise, they were equals. Piper bit her tongue.

Leila hewed her lip nervously, her first tell during the interrogation. She weighed her options and looked the man across from her in the eye, trying to tell if he was a man of his convictions. 3]]"I have a sister."[/b] She finally broke the silence, praying this would pay off. "She's only thirteen though. Not in the service, yet. But it's not like she has a choice. Don't punish her for being a law-abiding citizen. Please." Is was her moment of weakness and she needed the young man to see that and respect it. Respect the fact she confided in him at all.

          -

No. No. No, we do not. "Yeah, we do." Hudson groaned internally. Now they were going to have to share a room with this brat. Great. Just great.

Callan watched her with undisguised interest, nodding when she confessed to having a younger sister. Too young to be in the service, and hundreds of miles away. There wasn't any good reason for him to go after her once she was in the war, and he wouldn't. Odds were, he'd forget about her by the time she was drafted. "Now, was that so hard?"

          -

"Great. Declan, she's all yours. Give her a Western name to go by. I don't care to hear that Eastern shit." Nathaniel clapped her on the shoulder, but she didn't turn around. Her eyes, grey flames, were focused on Declan and his partner with a look of disgust.

Leila didn't speak, she just glared. Why in her right mind would she offer up her younger sibling without a deal such as the one she had made?

          -

Declan sighed, turning to the girl. "Any name in mind that isn't Eastern?" He didn't want to hear her bitch about a name she didn't like, so he might as well let her choose her own.

After a bit of contemplation, he figured he'd keep the gil around a while. At least until something more interesting came along. He scribbled "personal" on the sheet and returned it to the person who stopped by to get it, and rose from his chair, sticking his pen back into its rightful place in his pocket.

          -

"No?" Piper arched an eyebrow. Nathaniel watched on in amusement, crossing his arms and leaning against the desk. She could probably barely manage the accent, and he doubted she knew much of the Western terminology. How could she know of Western names not already in use by their own soldiers?

Leila stayed seated as her interrogator rose.  "What now?", she asked.  She half-knew what to expect.  She was either going to be killed or sent to a prison camp.  She hadn't really done enough to be killed on the spot so she figured a camp where she'd die a slow and horrible death.  Much better.

          -

"Well damn.  You'd think a second in command would have anything in mind."  Declan sighed, leaning against the wall, arms crossed.  "What about Vivian Pyre?" Hudson pitched.  His mother's name and maiden name was such so he figured it couldn't be too awful bad.

Callan ignored her question, leaning out the door to confirm his orderd and waving the escorts away. He nonchalantly (and painfully slowly) adjusted her handcuffs so that she was no longer handcuffed to the table, but to the other hand, and beckoned for her to follow. "You come with me."

          -

Heck tried to hide his amusement when the two Westerners were faced with the task of naming the girl and expected her to name herself. Why would she? She didn't want a new name, and helping them pick one would've been ridiculous, even for an Easterner. "Vivian Pyre'll do." The brunette flinched as if she'd been hit, and whirled on Nathaniel. "Why is this necessary?"

Leila furrowed her brow, standing and following with her now cuffed hands. She'd heard of personal prisoners before, but they were a rarity. Would she be one of those oddities now?

          -

"Just a formality, Vivian." Declan looked over at her, eyebrows low over his eyes. He had to day something, right? It wasn't like he could flat out say that her brother was somewhere nearby and that it'd be impossible to talk about her anywhere near him with the same name as before.

Callan kept walking, confident she was following because he could hear her footsteps behind him. "Walk a bit faster, Westie." He clucked, running a hand through his hair. He wondered if she'd go willingly.

          -

Vivian glared briefly at Declan before turning on Nathaniel. "Uh... No. I'm done with you, Viv. Get her out of here, you two. Do whatever you feel you need to do short of killing her. I have other things to deal with." With that, he retreated to his desk and sat down.

Leila slowed instead of doing what she was ordered, her brow hanging low over her eyes in confusion. "Where are we going?" Her voice was as cautious as her steps until she stood there in the hall at a standstill.

          -

Hudson sighed, pulling the girl out into the hall. "What do we do? Take her to our room?" He was confused. Very, very confused.

"I guess . . . ?" Declan was just as lost as the third-in-command. What did Nat really want them to do with her in the first place?

Her steps grew slower until they halted altogether, and he turned around, clearly agitated. "Don't ask questions. Walk. Now. Before I change my mind." He'd give her a few seconds before he shipped her off to the camps farthest from the neutral zone—the worst ones.

          -

Vivian listened to them toss ideas back and forth with obvious amusement, her grey eyes flickering between their faces. "Comforting to know Nate's placed me with the two most authoritative idiots he's got." The third's grip on her arm kept her slightly tense out of habit.

Leila sighed, picking back up where she left off behind her interrogator. She was probably walking the Green Mile as she knew it, but she didn't really have a choice at this point.

          -

Hudson snickered, mock laughing at the girl's comment with his nose bunched up. This was going to be unbearable.

He pushed out through the double doors and into the muggy night, glancing over his shoulder to see that she followed him. "If you try to run, you'll be shot immediately. If, on the up chance, you get away, I swear to God I'll have you treed by morning. Do you understand?" He'd dealt with prisoners since he entered the war. Losing one was rare.

          -

Vivian turned her attention to her surroundings, absentmindedly yanking her arm out of the third's hands. She could stand on her own, and she would. But she said nothing else, grey eyes taking in the hallway and the doors along it.

"Sure." Leila dismissed her thoughts, looking around at her surroundings once she was outside. One day they might might be helpful if she ever escaped her new prison and was able to get a contact to the other side.

          -

"Here", Declan said as they reached the shared room. It was a decent size, three beds in the room and the heads all pushed against one wall with two small windows on the the other. It was pretty messy. Surprise, surprise.

After a few minutes, he opened the door and guided her in, shutting the door behind her and locking it. "Upstairs, and don't say a word." The spare bedroom would be hers.

          -

Vivian strode in, kicking aside a few stray things on the floor. "Damn, did something die in here?" Probably their old roommate, if she had to guess.

Leila nodded, obeying for now.  She marched upstairs, her boots sounding on the hardwood stairs as she made her way up.  She found the room easily, the other one being a bathroom and all.

          -

"Shut up."  Hudson said it, but Declan had started just a moment after him.  "I bet a prison camp smells pretty bad.  And the latrines you'd be burning would smell worse."

Callan then ducked into the laundry room and drew one of his old uniforms out—small enough to fit the girl. The eighteen year old climbed the stairs and tossed them to her with the order, "Change."

          -

"Declan, you and I both know that our squads have known each other too long to send each other to the camps." Especially a second, for God's sakes.

"What do you want me to do with the other clothes?" Leila asked as she took a hold of the other outfit, a blue getup that looked just . . . ugh.

"Just be grateful, yeah?" He knew that, obviously. But he was trying to make a point: it could be a whole shit-ton worse than this.

"Give them back." They'd be burned or given to the spies. No remnants of home for her. Only blue, suffocating blue. "Get to it."

          -

Vivian didn't respond, sitting down on the bed she was assumed would be hers. Between theirs, naturally. She watched the two move about, grey eyes flitting around. "Hm."

She nodded, her eyes down at the floor as she stepped into the bathroom to change. A few minutes later she was out, handing off her clothes to her guard, a strip blue fabric torn from her shirt tucked away in the pocket of the somewhat baggie red pants.

          -

"'Hm' what?" Hudson asked as the two guys tidied up, his eyes shooting daggers. The last thing he needed was her approval of their lifestyle.

The man examined her clothes carefully, eyes narrowing at a rip he found on her shirt. Fabric torn off. "This wasn't here before, lass. What'd you do?" He crossed his arms over his chest. She didn't have any weapons. What had she done? Taken a souvenir?

          -

Hudson shot daggers her way, but she didn't flinch. "Nothing. Just observing. Damn." Westerners were so odd. She didn't know what to make of them.
